Erin L. Smith joined the law firm of Bastarrika, Soto, Gonzalez & Somohano, LLP as an associate in July 2009. She concentrates her practice on family law, and also has experience in handling Municipal, Civil, and Guardianship proceedings. Ms. Smith showed an early dedication to helping victims of domestic violence. During her law school years, she interned with Women Aware, Inc., a New Brunswick based women’s organization dedicated to providing shelter and legal assistance to victims of domestic violence. The majority of her experience came from her four years with Northeast New Jersey Legal Services. There, she served as the Domestic Violence attorney, and was able to assist hundreds of domestic violence victims. Ms. Smith gained immeasurable trial experience, and has litigated complex Domestic Violence and Custody cases. She has also successfully argued several cases before the New Jersey Appellate Court.

In addition to her extensive trial experience, Ms. Smith has been fortunate enough to do outreach work into the Paterson Community. She has lectured to Hispanic and Muslim Women’s groups about their legal rights in the areas of domestic violence, custody, and child support. She has worked with the Passaic Alliance and WAFA house, and she also served on the Passaic County Domestic Violence Working Group.
