Biography

Kelly Degen joined Bastarrika, Soto, Gonzalez, and Somohano, LLP as an associate in October 2019. She received her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Montclair State University and her Juris Doctorate from Rutgers Law School – Newark. 

During law school, Kelly was the Articles and Submissions Editor for the Women’s Rights Law Reporter and served as the senior coordinator for Rutgers Chapter of Sanctuary for Families Courtroom Advocates Project. Additionally, she also participated in the Rutgers Law School Child Advocacy Clinic as a clinical student where she provided legal assistance to children in matters involving abuse and neglect, special immigrant juvenile status, and social security income issues.

Prior to joining the office, Kelly completed a judicial clerkship for the Honorable Imre Karaszegi, Jr., J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Passaic County, Family Part from August 2018 to August 2019. As a law clerk, Kelly primarily performed legal research and prepared memoranda on issues in cases involving children in court and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Moreover, Kelly frequently conducted consent conferences in non-dissolution cases regarding custody, parenting time, paternity, child support, and medical support, was a certified mediator for small claims and landlord-tenant cases, and made recommendations regarding the disposition of post-judgment matrimonial motions.

Kelly is a member of the Passaic County Bar Association. She also serves as a panel member for the Passaic Vicinage Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel Program and the Passaic Vicinage Non-Dissolution Mediation Panel Program.
