Biography

Jane M. Personette has been admitted to the practice of law since 1994. In 2021, she joined Bastarrika, Soto, Gonzalez & Somohano, LLP, where has concentrated her practice on Family Law (including, but by no means limited to, divorce, custody, parenting time and domestic violence matters) and Appellate Practice.   

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Personette worked for more than a decade at premier criminal defense firm in northern New Jersey where she handled complex criminal matters and appeals. During this time, Ms. Personette tried numerous matters before the New Jersey Superior Court, Municpal Courts, and the Office of Adminstrative Law.  During the course of her career, Ms. Personette has handled approximately one hundred appeals to the Appellate Division, having argued before the Appellate Division in approximately half of the cases, and having also argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court as the Law Guardian in Division of Youth and Family Services v. M.M., 189 N.J. 261 (2007). 

As Law Guardian, Ms. Personette represented children in abuse and neglect cases. Later, she represented parents in litigation initiated by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Earlier in her career, Ms. Personette worked for Essex County Legal Aid Association, serving the poor of Essex County.

Ms. Personette is a member of the Passaic County Bar Association, and the District XI Ethics Committee. She received her Law Degree from Seton Hall University School of Law, and her Bachelor's Degree from Felician College.
