Biography

Marissa is an associate with the Criminal Defense Department of BSGS. She handles Municipal Court Traffic and Criminal Offenses in both Municipal and Superior Court matters. After graduating law school, she clerked for the Criminal Division of Essex County Court for the Honorable Nancy Sivilli. Marissa then joined the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in the Alternative Commitment Unit. She is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York. She is a member of the Northeast Black Law Students Association Alumni Board and has previously drafted fact patterns for their National Moot Court Competition. While attending New York Law School, Marissa served on the executive board for a number of organizations including Moot Court, Legal Association of Women and the Northeast Black Law Students Association.

Marissa is a first generation born in the United States. Both of her parents were born on the Cabo Verde Islands. She was born and raised in Essex County, NJ. She is a graduate of Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City, NJ and Central Penn College in Harrisburg, PA. She played basketball and volleyball in both high school and college as a starter and Senior Captain.
