Guilty plea in New Jersey double murder

When a person is accused of a crime in New Jersey, he or she is left facing multiple life-changing decisions. These decisions are often ones that are difficult to make without appropriate legal training. In fact, a man recently made the decision to enter a guilty plea after he was charged with murder.

The charges the man faced involved a double murder that occurred in Dec. 2015. Police say that they responded to the scene in response to neighbors’ requests for a welfare check. They claim that they discovered the bodies of two females, a 15-year-old and her 51-year-old mother.

The man charged was the older woman’s 53-year-old live-in boyfriend. Neighbors claim that there was a history of violence against the woman and her daughter in the home and that the woman planned to leave the man. Police say that the man was not at the scene when they arrived, but he was found in the days that followed the discovery of the bodies, sleeping in the car. He was taken into custody without incident.

The New Jersey man recently pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder charges he was facing; he could spend a minimum of 30 years in prison and as much as 75 years for each of the two counts against him. There are often many factors that are considered when a person decides whether to fight the charges against him or her or plead guilty. An attorney with experience with such cases can help defendants examine the evidence against them, weigh their choices and make a decision.
