Most people would agree that living with a family member can be stressful. Regardless of the conflict that may occur, however, such an arrangement does not typically result in violence. Despite this, a man in New Jersey now faces criminal charges after the alleged murder of his mother.

Police say that they first became involved in the situation when they received a call about a disturbance at a residence just before 11 p.m. on a day in November. When they arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered a 60-year-old man throwing things from a second floor window. Police say he was also yelling threats at responding police officers.

Though they say they made attempts to de-escalate the situation, they ultimately entered the residence to check on the welfare of an 82-year-old woman inside. Unfortunately, she was deceased. An autopsy reportedly revealed that she died from blunt force trauma, and the medical examiner’s office ruled her death a homicide. The man, her son, was arrested; however, the investigation into the incident — including discovering a possible motive — is ongoing. The prosecutor’s office is asking anyone with information to contact them.

When a murder occurs, police and other law enforcement officials often feel a great deal of pressure to make an arrest, even before they have had an opportunity to gather all of the evidence. Unfortunately, this could leave a person facing charges for a crime they did not commit in the haste to blame someone. To help them navigate the complicated process that often follows an arrest on a murder charge, many people in New Jersey want an experienced professional on their side.
